Co-Commissioning opportunity: a US RECREATION to be produced by Unicycle Productions under the direction of the original team.
A playful experience involving willing participants, pedestrians, and 20 wheelchairs.
An extraordinary journey of discovery: your neighborhood, your abilities and a life on wheels.
Perfect for college campuses, town squares, city festivals and markets and urban settings.
Let’s start with the idea that you are not an audience and that, therefore, this is not a show. This is an experience – or better yet, an experiment – in which you will be both actors and test subjects, and above all, the sole and happy beneficiaries.
In MISSION ROOSEVELT, we want to move through urban space, follow a path, and leave a mark – a colorful trace on the ground. We want to share with you the pleasure of the forbidden, the thrill of using a taboo object, something being used for the first time, something that could justify the entire act by itself.
The wheelchair is the tool and instrument of MISSION ROOSEVELT – a symbol of everything we believe doesn’t concern us, and yet today, belongs to us. It is a metaphor for inequality, through which we reclaim the city.
An urban experiment, a performance that calls for public participation, where the audience – seated in wheelchairs – becomes a joyful troupe taking over urban space. MISSION ROOSEVELT takes over the city.
